Walking
tracks & tramping
Hawkes Bay also offers walkers a variety of different and exciting bush
walks and tramps. There are superb day walks at Te Mata Peak. The
Ruahine Ranges and the Kawekas offer more adventurous tramps for
experienced walkers.
The New
Zealand Native forest is unique and Balls Clearing is a rare example of
podocarp forest that escaped being felled and is accessible.
Cape Kidnappers
Visiting the Gannet colony and Cape Kidnappers is another activity
available in Hawkes Bay. Visitors can take an exciting tractor trailer
trip along the beach to one of the few mainland gannet colonies in the world, the
scenery overlooking the Pacific Ocean at Cape Kidnappers is truly
breathtaking. The cliffs passed en route clearly demonstrate our
remarkable geology.
Please Note: advanced booking is essential as this trip has to be at
low tide.
